On Tuesday 21st October 2014 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. the Cloister in via San Francesco turned into a gymnasium. Many students were present during the event had the chance to try to play some sports, such as zumba, kendo, fencing, nordic walking, ultimate frisbee, cross fit and boxing fitness, with some coaches. The coaches who took part in the event are professional and collaborate with the University sport committee. As a matter of fact, all the disciplines shown during the event are proposed by the so-called CUS, University of Verona Sport Centre. All the University students can enroll in the centre with reduced fares.
Moreover, during the event the winners of the 2014 National University Championships, students who stood out in the various disciplines, had been given a prize. On the stage were present the rector Nicola Saror and Federico Schena, professor of methods and teaching sports, and they recognised the merits of the students. The rector said “I congratulate you on the obtained results and on being able to reconcile sport and university activity with extreme success. Playing sport helps you keep healthy, generates psycological wellness and helps you socialise. Sport is a point of reference in the USA, but it is not so popular in Italy, but well rooted in Verona and in the territory nearby”.
Many guests took part in the event, such as Valentina Boni as the team-leader of the so-called "Fimauto Valpolicella calcio", Antonio Pauletti as a First Division rugby player in the so-called "Cus Verona Rugby", Matteo Trentin as a biker of the so-called "Omega pharma" and Andrea Giani as the coach of the so-called "Calzedonia Blu Volley Verona". They told students about their experiences and how could it be possible to become sport champions and, at the same time, to get important results in study. An example of this possibility is the young Trentin who is preparing himself for taking his degree after having recently taken part and won a stage of the so-called "Tour de France".
